Dak Prescott Confronts Employee Over 'Embarrassing' Loss Remark
Cowboys quarterback engages with a stadium staffer who criticized the team's performance after a home defeat.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott did not shy away from confrontation after his team's 24-16 home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. As Prescott walked towards the locker room, a person believed to be a stadium employee or valet car driver called the Cowboys' performance "embarrassing." The remark prompted Prescott to stop and stare down the individual.
"He say it once I looked off, huh?" Prescott was heard responding to the employee, according to a video of the interaction. The quarterback later told reporters that the employee's subsequent reaction after Prescott looked at him was the catalyst for his engagement.
"But the thing was, I don’t know if it was an employee or a driver. Whoever it was, he’s free to speak his mind. When he said it, I just happened to look at him. When I turned my head back, he said something else," Prescott explained. "That’s the part that you know just as a man or just a person, feel free to speak your mind. Just speak it. Don’t cower away from the reaction you’re going to get… Just say it… I hate that it’s even being talked about, to be honest with you."
Prescott acknowledged that the criticism, while blunt, was not entirely unfounded following the defeat. The Cowboys' loss was sealed on their final offensive play, an interception thrown by Prescott. The Buccaneers secured the victory against a Cowboys team that struggled, particularly against an undrafted rookie quarterback making his second career start.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer also addressed the incident, indicating that while he did not necessarily take the comments as disrespect, he viewed them as motivating. "People are allowed to say what they want to say," Schottenheimer stated.
The Cowboys now have a ten-day break before their next game against the Green Bay Packers on "Sunday Night Football."
