Daisy Edgar-Jones Stars in "Sense and Sensibility" Premiere Amid Mixed Reviews

Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones graced the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of "Sense and Sensibility" on Wednesday, an event that coincided with the film's release amid a spectrum of critical reviews.

Edgar-Jones, 28, who portrays Elinor Dashwood in the period romantic drama, appeared in an elegant cream-colored corset top with flowing shoulder material, paired with a lavender satin skirt. She completed the ensemble with open-toed heels and kept her accessories minimal to highlight the outfit. Her makeup featured a light pink blush and a rosy pink lip tint, with her brunette hair styled in soft waves.

The film, adapted from Jane Austen's 1811 novel, is set to be released in U.S. theaters on October 16. "Sense and Sensibility" premiered in the UK last month and has since garnered mixed reactions from critics.

Some reviewers have noted that the contemporary adaptation struggles to compare with the acclaimed 1995 film. Film critic Brian Viner of the Daily Mail awarded the movie two stars, stating it "has lost Austen's 18th Century charms." Similarly, Kevin Maher of The Times described it as "Austen by numbers, emotionally flat, dramatically uneven and bizarrely, bafflingly, conventional."

However, other critics have offered more favorable assessments. Robbie Collins of The Telegraph gave the adaptation five stars, praising the performances for their "historically appropriate poise" while also feeling "fresh and unrehearsed." Collins highlighted director Georgia Oakley's "inspired decision to regularly inject scenes with dogs," which he felt added a "humanizing and often warmly comic" effect.

The Independent's Clarisse Loughrey awarded the film four stars, writing that while it "isn't meant for Jane Austen purists," Esme Creed-Miles and Daisy Edgar-Jones deliver "winning Marianne and Elinor" in a take that "ramps up the yearning and earthiness of its source material."

Currently, "Sense and Sensibility" holds a 79% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Other cast members also attended the premiere. Esme Creed-Miles, who plays Marianne Dashwood, wore a strapless light pink dress with ruffled floral detailing. Caitriona Balfe, cast as Mrs. Dashwood, appeared in a sleeveless silver gown with a sheer black train, and styled her hair in a sleek updo.

Lily Mo Sheen wore an off-white strapless dress, while Ava Michelle was seen in a sleeveless pink lace dress.

Edgar-Jones recently shared in an interview with the BBC that she relates to her character Elinor's tendency to lead with her head and suppress emotions, but noted that the role allowed her to embrace a "wilder, passionate side."
