Czech Republic President Petr Pavel recently gained widespread attention after participating in the Hungarian Grand Prix as an official race photographer. Pavel, 64, was seen alongside another Czech photographer, Jiri Krenek, during the qualifying session and the race, capturing images trackside.

Pavel's presence, complete with his own security detail, surprised many attendees and quickly went viral on social media. He was also observed conversing with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem in the paddock.

The President's involvement in motorsports photography is not new. He is known to have a passion for both photography and racing, having previously documented events such as Le Mans 24 and the Moto GP earlier this year. His motorsport pursuits have also taken him to the US and Saudi Arabia for NASCAR and the Dakar Rally.

Pavel's photographic work has garnered recognition, with his images reportedly displayed at the National Technical Museum in Prague. A photo album he produced was also sold for nearly $50,000 at a charity auction.

Before assuming the presidency in March 2023, Pavel had a distinguished career in the military and international security. He served as the Chair of the NATO Military Committee from 2015 to 2018 and was the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces between 2012 and 2015. His current role as president sees him balancing state duties with his personal interests, including his recent appearance at the Grand Prix to witness Lando Norris take the checkered flag.
