Cybersecurity Expert Warns Against Sharing Phone Passwords, Citing Potential for Abuse

Izabella Stueflotten, a cybersecurity expert and VP of digital strategy at Elasticito, advises against sharing phone passwords, even with a spouse, emphasizing the importance of maintaining personal digital privacy to prevent potential abuse.

Stueflotten, who has been with her husband for ten years, stated in an interview that she would "never give him my phone password." She explained that she understands "how abuse can start" and stresses the need for individuals to protect their privacy. She outlines six steps for doing so.

Key recommendations include enabling multi-factor authentication on all accounts and utilizing an authenticator app instead of SMS, particularly if the phone number is shared or could be compromised. Stueflotten also suggests using strong, unique passwords for each service and employing a password manager. She further advises regular review of app permissions and device security settings, as well as being cautious about what information is shared online and with whom.

These practices are presented as crucial for safeguarding personal data in an increasingly digital world, where privacy can be compromised even within close relationships.
