CW Morgan, Actor Known for Role in "Scream," Dies at 72

Actor CW Morgan, best known for his role as Hank Loomis in the 1996 film "Scream," has died at the age of 72. His daughter, Renata Macfie, confirmed his passing on her Facebook page on August 30, sharing a tribute and a throwback photograph.

"I’m never going to have the right words for this post. Loosing you has left the biggest hole in my heart. I miss you endlessly already," Macfie wrote. "I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings. I’m grateful and lucky to have had you as my daddy."

Los Angeles Medical Examiner records indicate Morgan died on August 30 in Los Angeles County. The exact cause of death remains unclear, though records suggest he died in a bathroom.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told TMZ that officers responded to a call for a death investigation and that the death appeared to be from natural causes. The Los Angeles Fire Department also confirmed receiving a call for an unconscious adult male.

In "Scream," Morgan portrayed the father of Skeet Ulrich's character, Billy Loomis, the original Ghostface killer. His character, a lawyer and ex-husband of Billy's mother Nancy Loomis (Laurie Metcalf), had an affair with the mother of Neve Campbell's character, Sidney Prescott. This affair contributed to the breakdown of the Loomis family and, according to the film's narrative, fueled Billy's descent into murder.

Morgan's most significant scene in the film occurred when he provided an alibi for his son during a police investigation. He reprised his role in a flashback sequence in the 2000 film "Scream 3."

Born Curtis Wade Morgan on June 8, 1954, in Bisbee, Arizona, he made his acting debut on the NBC drama "Midnight Caller" in 1991. His acting career extended into the early 2000s, with his final credited role as Coleman Spencer in an episode of "Nash Bridges" in 2000.

Other acting credits include the 1992 television movie "The Last of His Tribe" and the 1997 film "Metro." He also lent his voice to an episode of the MTV animated series "Aeon Flux" in 1995 and the 1997 video game "The Last Express."

Morgan was active on social media, frequently posting selfies. His final post on June 11, 2025, featured a photograph of a pink flower without a caption.
