CVS to Pay $20.5 Million in Class Action Settlement Over User Data
The pharmacy giant faces allegations of illegally sharing private user data and has agreed to a settlement, with eligible customers able to claim between $5 and $10.
CVS is set to pay $20.5 million in a class action settlement to resolve allegations that it illegally shared private user data with third parties, including Criteo. The settlement aims to address claims that data, such as health information and browsing history, was shared through technology embedded on CVS Digital Properties, which include CVS.com, the CVS Health website, and the CVS app.
While CVS denies any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to the settlement to avoid further legal expenses. Eligible individuals who accessed any CVS properties in the U.S. before July 27, 2026, may be entitled to a payment.
Claimants can receive either $5 by submitting a claim without documentation or $10 if they provide proof, such as search history, email receipts, or screenshots. The final payment amounts could be adjusted based on the total number of claims filed. To be eligible for payment, all users must file a claim by November 16, 2026. The court is scheduled to approve or deny the settlement on December 1, 2026. If approved, payments are expected to be distributed approximately 120 days after the settlement's final approval and the completion of any appeals process.
Claimants can choose to receive their payment via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or check. Checks will expire and become void 180 days after issuance.
Individuals who wish to opt out of the settlement must submit a request by 11:59 p.m. EST on November 1, 2026. Opting out means not receiving any payment but retaining the right to pursue individual legal action regarding the issues covered by the settlement.
