CUNY Graduation Rates Decline Sharply Over Five Years
Data shows a nearly 10% drop in graduation rates across the City University of New York system, with community colleges seeing significant decreases.

Graduation rates at the City University of New York (CUNY) have fallen by nearly 10% over the past five years, according to recent data. Graduation rates for associate degrees at CUNY's community colleges, which are designed for two-year completion, dropped from 38.9% in 2022 to 35.5% in 2026. For students at CUNY's four-year undergraduate colleges, the rate fell from 62% in 2022 to 55.6% in the past academic year.
The system's Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), designed to boost graduation rates within three years with extra support, saw an even steeper decline, from 44% in 2022 to 34.5% in 2026, a decrease of nearly 22%.
Former CUNY trustee Jeffrey Wiesenfeld attributed the decline to a "two-pronged problem," stating that
