Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish is reportedly frustrated with new manager Pierre Sage's decision to drop defender Jaydee Canvot just four games into the season. Sage cited a poor performance the previous weekend against Fulham and a disappointing week in training as reasons for leaving the 20-year-old out of the squad for Saturday's defeat to Ipswich Town.

However, Daily Mail Sport understands that the club's board views the "stern treatment" of Canvot, described as a young, valuable asset, negatively. Canvot had become a regular starter in the latter half of the previous season after Marc Guehi's departure for Manchester City and had featured in Palace's first three Premier League matches under Sage.

Sage had previously been praised for a similar hardline approach with players Dwight McNeil and Evann Guessand, whom he dropped against Fulham to elicit a response. But Canvot is considered a key part of the club's project, leading to a more critical reception of his omission.

Crystal Palace has had a difficult start to the season, losing three of their opening four Premier League fixtures. The team's defense has been particularly vulnerable, conceding 11 goals in their first four league games. Managerial changes have been frequent, with Sage replacing Oliver Glasner, who achieved FA Cup and Conference League success during his tenure at Selhurst Park. Sage arrived from Lens, where he won the French Cup and secured a second-place finish in Ligue 1.
