Cristiano Ronaldo Refuses to Play for Portugal Under Jorge Jesus

Cristiano Ronaldo has stated he will not return to the Portuguese national team while manager Jorge Jesus remains in charge, according to reports. This stance comes after Ronaldo expressed outrage over Jesus's comments and the perceived handling of his recent departure from the team.

Ronaldo left the national team camp last month after being left on the bench for a match against Norway, skipping training sessions and abandoning the squad. Despite manager Jesus extending an invitation for Ronaldo to return for the next international break, Portuguese journalist Rui Santos reported that Ronaldo will not play under Jesus.

"He reportedly vented that he will not return to the national team, at least while Jorge Jesus is in technical command," Santos told CNN Portugal. "He is not satisfied in the slightest with the handling of this entire process. He was particularly outraged by the content of the statements made by Jorge Jesus, the head coach."

Ronaldo reportedly feels Jesus's public comments have contradicted an expressed desire to include him. The superstar stated he would reveal the truth about his departure "in due time."

Manager Jesus, who has a highly respected career with 25 trophies and a perfect record of four wins from four games with Portugal so far, had previously stated that Ronaldo was welcome back if he wished to play.

"As far as I'm concerned, everything is open. It's up to Cris to decide his own life. In the next call-up, if Cris is playing and wants to be in the national team, why not?" Jesus said. "Resentment? Nothing, it was a misunderstanding. In my opinion, it's easy to resolve."

Jesus emphasized that Ronaldo's status as a symbol of the team made the situation different from other players who might not get substituted on, but insisted it was not a problem for him. He added that if Ronaldo is playing for his club, he could be in the next squad.

Ronaldo's withdrawal has been a significant story, occurring months after a World Cup where his role was perceived by some to have hindered the team. He confirmed his departure from the training camp via Instagram, citing a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation and comments made by Jesus.

"In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself," Ronaldo wrote. "Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates."
