Craig Melvin and Parker Posey Share 'Awkward' 'Today' Show Interview Moment
A misheard word led to a cringeworthy exchange between the "Today" show host and the actress.
Craig Melvin experienced a moment of awkwardness during an interview with actress Parker Posey on the "Today" show when she misheard him discussing her upcoming projects.
Melvin, attempting to pivot the conversation to Posey's work, said, "It's time to talk horror." Posey, leaning in with a concerned expression, appeared to have misheard him. Melvin quickly clarified, "No, hor-ror," prompting Posey to reveal, "I thought you called me a whore."
"I did not call you a whore!" Melvin responded, admitting he "did not enunciate well." The exchange further intensified when Melvin inquired about Posey's involvement in an upcoming movie, "Sleepover." Posey stated she was no longer participating in the project, despite it being listed as one of her upcoming endeavors.
"I'm not doing it," Posey said. Melvin, referencing his notes, countered, "It says right here that you're doing 'Sleepover.'" Posey reiterated that it was "not happening anymore" as "something came up."
Melvin described the situation as having taken an "even more awkward than usual" turn. Posey, fanning herself with papers, explained that she had been attached to the project but it was no longer proceeding. News of Posey's role in "Sleepover," a Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures film, was reported on October 13.
Following the extended awkward silence, Melvin invoked Posey's "White Lotus" catchphrase, exclaiming, "Piper, no!"
Posey then attempted to lighten the mood by referencing a recent publication that named Melvin the Sexiest Morning Show Host. Melvin and Posey had last spoken on the "Today" show in March 2025, when Melvin praised her accent on "White Lotus."
