Coyotes Engage in 40-Minute Brawl Outside Southern California Cabin
Surveillance footage captured the unexpected animal confrontation, solving a mystery for the cabin's owners.
The unexplained nightly barking of a dog at a Southern California cabin has been resolved, thanks to surveillance footage that revealed three coyotes engaged in an intense fight outside the home.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning in the San Bernardino Mountains, where the wild animals were observed brawling for approximately 40 minutes.
David and Annette Simpson, the owners of the cabin, were not home at the time of the confrontation but captured the entire event on their security cameras. The footage showed the coyotes at their front door, engaging in what appeared to be a significant territorial dispute.
"We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know," Annette Simpson told KTLA. She noted that while they are accustomed to seeing wildlife such as bears and squirrels, a coyote fight directly on their walkway was a new occurrence.
Despite the proximity of the wild animals to their home, Annette expressed a sense of fascination rather than fear. "I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife and just so close," she said. "Those stairs just lead right to our front door, and they came up those stairs."
However, the encounter has prompted the Simpsons to reconsider the safety of their pets. Annette mentioned that she occasionally allows her cats to go onto the patio, but the footage of the aggressive coyote behavior has made her reconsider this practice.
