Cowboys Suffer Heartbreaking Loss to Ravens After Late-Game Blunders

The Dallas Cowboys fell to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31 in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, a loss marked by critical strategic errors in the game's final seconds.

The game was tied at 31 with only seven seconds remaining when Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey kicked off. Instead of attempting to run more time off the clock, Aubrey kicked the ball out of the end zone for a touchback. Under NFL rules, this advanced the ball to Baltimore's 35-yard line, giving the Ravens an opportunity to score with one timeout left.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson completed a pass that moved the ball into Cowboys territory, and Baltimore used its final timeout with one second on the clock. Ravens kicker Tyler Loop then made a 56-yard field goal to secure the victory.

"Everybody nowadays with all the game management people throughout the league, you’re aware of the time constraints on these situations and what you’re able to do. The touchback rule is huge," said Ravens coach Jesse Minter. "The 35-yard line, so we felt the same way with their kicker. When they get the ball at the 35, they’re 15 yards from being in field goal range. We felt like one play that could take six seconds, kind of know the time that route takes and the yards that we needed. Great execution by our guys and came through."

Another pivotal moment occurred with 14 seconds left and the Cowboys trailing 31-28. Quarterback Dak Prescott overthrew George Pickens in the end zone on what could have been a go-ahead touchdown. Aubrey subsequently kicked a field goal to tie the game before the final kickoff.

"He called a quick out. I probably overcoached Dak on that one," Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer commented.

The loss brings the Cowboys' season record to 1-2.
