Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones and George Pickens React Angrily to Brutal Home Loss
Dak Prescott's late interception sealed a 24-16 Cowboys loss to the Bucs, sparking furious reactions from Jerry Jones and George Pickens.
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a stunning 24-16 defeat at home against the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football, a loss that left owner Jerry Jones and star wide receiver George Pickens visibly frustrated.
The Cowboys, aiming to move above .500, faltered in a game where a late interception by quarterback Dak Prescott effectively ended their chances of tying the score.
With under 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Cowboys trailing by eight points, Prescott's pass intended for tight end Jake Ferguson on second-and-1 was deflected and intercepted by Buccaneers linebacker Alex Anzalone. This turnover gave Tampa Bay possession, sealing the victory.
Following the interception, owner Jerry Jones was observed slamming his hand on a suite counter in AT&T Stadium. On the sideline, Pickens, who had a productive game with nine catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, slammed his helmet to the turf in visible anger.
Two plays after the interception, Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving sealed the win with a 22-yard touchdown run. Irving finished the game with 165 rushing yards and a touchdown, contributing significantly to Tampa Bay's first win of the season. The loss dropped the Cowboys to a 2-3 record.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Jones acknowledged the Buccaneers' performance, stating, "The Buccaneers really took it to us. In my view, they did it inside. That’s where the real damage was done, we’ll see. That’s really surprising to me."
He added, "This is very disappointing, and I know it’s disappointing to our home crowd — it is to me." Jones expressed that the team missed a significant opportunity to build momentum, concluding that the Buccaneers "won it tonight" across multiple phases of the game.
