Cowboys, Lions Among Teams Inquiring About Steelers Cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are among the NFL teams that have contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers regarding a potential trade for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The Steelers are reportedly seeking a substantial return, potentially a first-round pick or a package including a second and third-round selection.
Porter, 26, has missed the first two weeks of the season and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a back injury. Complicating any potential trade is Porter's contract status; he is also seeking a new deal, and the Steelers organization typically does not negotiate extensions during the season.
The Cowboys are reportedly interested in bolstering their defense, which has seen recent additions through trades and the draft selection of safety Caleb Downs. Dallas is still looking for cornerback reinforcements, particularly with Cobie Durant currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Similarly, the Lions' defense has struggled against the pass, allowing the second-most passing yards in the league entering the current week. Detroit is also contending with injuries to key defensive players, including safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, and cornerback Avonte Maddox, who is out for the season with a foot injury.
The NFL trade deadline falls on the Tuesday after Week 9, leaving time for the Steelers to potentially facilitate a move for Porter. The cornerback was selected by Pittsburgh in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Penn State.
