Cowboys Coach Brian Schottenheimer 'Pissed Off' After Eagles Win, Despite Dominant Performance
Quarterback Dak Prescott revealed the head coach's emotional state following a crucial victory, attributing it to criticism over play-calling.
Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer concluded a decisive 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles with a notably brief postgame press conference, lasting just over four minutes. Despite the team's strong second-half performance, Schottenheimer offered terse responses such as "it was good" and "it was solid," leading to speculation about his demeanor.
When asked directly about his brevity and apparent lack of exuberance, Schottenheimer responded, "Nope, I’m great. Excited for our guys." However, quarterback Dak Prescott later confirmed that the coach was indeed upset.
"Definitely hungry, pissed off version of Shotty," Prescott stated after the game. "It’s not like he’s naive. It’s not like he hadn’t heard some noise about him. And whether it’s the call in the games or whatever doubt that’s been out there. But we’ve got his back. He knows that. He’s a guy that takes a lot of pride in his job, a lot of pride in this team."
Criticism regarding Schottenheimer's offensive play-calling has been a recurring theme, particularly concerning the Cowboys' run-pass balance. Dallas ranks fourth in the NFL for fewest rushing attempts this season. In the game against the Eagles, however, the team appeared to shift its strategy. Running back Javonte Williams carried the ball 25 times, a season-high for him, accumulating 155 rushing yards, which marked a career-high in a single game. Backup Tyler Goodson also saw increased usage with 10 carries for 38 yards.
This tactical adjustment may have been a direct response to recent critiques, including those from Dallas radio personality Shan Shariff, who had suggested that Schottenheimer cede play-calling duties. The Cowboys' offense passed the ball 54 times in their Week 6 loss to the Green Bay Packers, a performance that drew significant scrutiny and contrasted with the more balanced approach seen against the Eagles.
The Cowboys are set to face the Arizona Cardinals next week in Dallas, aiming to improve their record and close the gap in the NFC East standings.
