Court Reinstates White House Press Credentials for CNN, Politico, and MS NOW

The White House has reinstated press credentials for CNN, Politico, and MS NOW following a federal court order issued early Thursday morning. The ruling mandated the immediate restoration of access for reporters from these outlets, who had been banned from the White House premises the previous week.

While the court issued its order, reporters were initially rebuffed by White House staff. Access was eventually granted around noon, nearly 11 hours after the court's directive.

President Donald Trump had announced the ban last Friday, stating that certain outlets should not be permitted to report "FICTION and LIES" about him and suggested that more outlets could be added to the list. The White House has cited "national security" as a reason for the ban, with Trump accusing reporters of violating national security by using unknown sources.

However, Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, noted in his ruling that the White House provided "little to back up their asserted national security interest." Reports indicate that one of the "unknown sources" cited by the White House was Vice President JD Vance speaking to reporters on a press call. Trump himself also cited a simpler motive, telling reporters that he was "sick of" cumulative stories over the past two years.

This ruling is a temporary restraining order, valid for a maximum of 14 days. Judge Kelly stated his intention to rule expeditiously on a more permanent preliminary injunction. Trump has indicated he will appeal any decision that goes against him.
