Court Hears Details of Evidence Found Near Bodies of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies
Prosecutors presented photos and details of items allegedly left at the scene, including bloodied belongings and rental car tags.
Prosecutors in the murder trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon presented evidence to the jury on Tuesday, including details and photographs of items found near the bodies of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
Justice Natalie Adams instructed the jury that images of Baird's decomposed body would be presented in a way that shielded them from overly graphic detail. Jurors were provided with photocopies of the images, with prosecutors directing their attention to specific areas, rather than displaying them on a screen. The images will not be released to the public or media.
Former senior sergeant Greg Moon testified that Baird was found wearing only black boxer shorts, two rings, and an earring stud. Moon described the stages of decomposition and noted a bullet wound in Baird's temple. He also mentioned the presence of insect life at the scene. Luke Davies's body was discovered beneath Baird's, still within its surfboard bag. Davies had some tattoos visible, but his body was also severely decomposed. He was wearing black Calvin Klein underwear.
Investigators allegedly found a significant amount of evidence near the bodies in Bungonia, south of Sydney. This included a pile of blood-stained bedsheets, an Uber Eats costume, and a Budget rental car card. Moon stated that a range of men's clothing, a high-visibility jacket, hoodies, bloodied bedsheets, and Country Road towels were found in the pile. Also discovered were a motorbike helmet with a strand of hair inside and a packet of plastic coveralls that allegedly bore Lamarre-Condon's fingerprint. Investigators reportedly found Lamarre-Condon's DNA on other items, including a high-visibility hoodie.
The pile also contained gumboots, stained men's shoes, face masks, and a coffee cup that allegedly contained Lamarre-Condon's DNA. A Budget car rental tag bearing Lamarre-Condon's name was also recovered. Lamarre-Condon is accused of renting a van from a car dealership the day he allegedly killed Baird and Davies.
Evidence presented to the court also included pieces of Jesse Baird's driver's license and passport, which were allegedly cut up and dumped near his body, along with his wallet. Images of the wallet's contents, found among the bloody bedsheets and clothes in Bungonia, were shown to the jury. Additionally, Bunnings receipts matching purchases made by Lamarre-Condon in the days following the alleged murders were presented.
