A dream vacation for a couple from the United Kingdom turned into a costly ordeal after they missed their initial flight and subsequently discovered their entire all-inclusive package had been canceled.

Karen Cassidy, 36, and her husband George Gale booked a $1,500 getaway to Malaga, Spain, through Jet2holidays.com, scheduled to depart on Friday, August 14. The couple, who had been kept awake by their children, reportedly overslept their 4 a.m. alarm and missed their 7:10 a.m. flight.

Determined not to abandon their trip, Cassidy quickly booked new flights for the same day, departing at 4 p.m. However, due to a delay, they did not arrive at their Malaga hotel until midnight. It was then they learned that Jet2holidays had canceled their entire booking several hours before their self-booked flight had even departed.

Upon arrival at the hotel, staff informed them they could not find their booking, or that it was a "past booking." When Cassidy contacted Jet2holidays, representatives stated they could not assist due to the company's "no show" policy. Cassidy described the situation as "shocking" and said she was "in tears."

Unable to make alternative arrangements late at night, the couple paid $400 for their first night's accommodation, only to find their room overlooked a "fenced wall." They incurred additional costs of $400 for a different hotel the following night and had to purchase return flights. Cassidy expressed that they "felt like a number" and questioned the clarity of the "no show" policy, expressing concern about how others might be affected.

A spokesperson for Jet2holidays acknowledged the couple's experience and stated they were "sorry to hear about it." The company maintained that their policy was transparent and that, as the customers did not travel on their original outbound flight nor inform the company of their intention to make their own travel arrangements, their remaining holiday was canceled in accordance with the terms and conditions. The spokesperson added that their team offered to help the couple upon their arrival in Malaga.
