Couple Killed in Head-On Collision in Florida
A two-vehicle crash in Auburndale, Florida, resulted in the deaths of a married couple after a pickup truck allegedly swerved into their lane.
A couple in their 50s was killed Thursday afternoon in Auburndale, Florida, when a pickup truck reportedly swerved into the wrong lane and struck their vehicle head-on. The Polk County Sheriff's Office stated that the collision involved three vehicles and occurred around 12:20 p.m. on K-Ville Avenue.
The deceased couple was traveling westbound in a 2022 white Honda Accord. The 29-year-old driver of a 2006 Ford F350 was traveling eastbound behind a 2004 Ford F150. According to authorities, the driver of the F350 began drifting in and out of his lane before rear-ending the F150. Following this initial impact, the F350 crossed the center line and collided with the Honda Accord.
The husband, who was driving the Accord, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, the passenger, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Photos from the scene showed the Accord significantly mangled.
The drivers of the other two vehicles involved did not sustain injuries and have not been publicly identified. The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported that the 29-year-old driver of the F350 showed no signs of impairment.
The 29-year-old was not taken into custody at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit, and criminal charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported, with initial dispatch records indicating a person was trapped in a vehicle around 12:30 p.m. Authorities worked to extract the trapped passenger, who was successfully removed by 12:54 p.m. Roads in the vicinity of the crash were closed for several hours before being reopened.
