Country singer Ella Langley has addressed the viral moment where she firmly rejected a fan's public request for a date. The incident occurred after Langley's concert in Knoxville, Tennessee, when a TikTok influencer, known as Tiki, yelled through a parking lot fence asking the singer out.
"Ella, how many likes to take you on a date?" Tiki asked. Langley, who was with members of her band, appeared startled before responding, "Not enough in the world." She then looked away and shook her head.
Tiki, in turn, quoted hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, saying, "You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take." The exchange was captured on video and posted to Tiki's TikTok account.
The singer's sharp retort sparked a debate online, with some viewers finding her response harsh and others defending her right to set boundaries. "This rubbed me the wrong way. And I like her," one user commented. Another user wrote, "There's no way yall are mad at her for reacting negatively to a kid screaming at her asking to take her on a date in front of her team???"
Amid the divided reactions, Langley clarified her response in the comments section of the video. "It was meant to come off as dark humor. You said that and it got quiet and I got nervous," she wrote, explaining her reaction.
Langley, whose hit song "Choosin' Texas" has achieved significant chart success, surpassing Mariah Carey's Christmas hit on the Billboard charts, is reportedly dating fellow country singer Tucker Wetmore. The two have reportedly been seen together on several occasions in recent months, fueling romance rumors.
They were photographed together at the Nashville Songwriter Awards on September 22, leaving through a side door at the Ryman Auditorium. Further sightings include an appearance at the Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands last December and a joint performance of Wetmore's song "Sunburn" at the Heart Strings for Hope event in March.
Langley, 27, has become a notable figure in country music after moving to Nashville in 2019. She transitioned from playing local venues to achieving national success with her chart-topping single.
