Counter terrorism police are now leading the investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe. The investigation was previously handled by Devon and Cornwall police.
A 28-year-old man, who was initially arrested on suspicion of murder, has been re-arrested under suspicion of commission, preparation, or instigation of acts of terrorism. Counter Terrorism Policing South East stated that the shift in lead agency occurred after "new information and evidence has come to light during what has been a dynamic and complex investigation."
Devon and Cornwall police had previously indicated that there was "nothing to suggest" the murder was politically motivated. Further details regarding the new information and evidence have not been disclosed.
