Costco Slashes Price of Popular Holiday Treat After Shopper Backlash

Costco has reduced the price of its Kirkland Signature Peppermint Bark for the holiday season, a move that comes after shoppers expressed strong disapproval of last year's price hike.

The popular seasonal treat is now available for $12.99 for a 21-ounce container at some locations, a decrease from the $16.99 it cost in 2023. Last year's price increase, up from $9.99 in 2023, led to considerable online backlash, with some customers deeming the item too expensive for its quality.

Social media posts and reports indicate the peppermint bark has reappeared on shelves earlier than in previous years. The treat, characterized by layers of dark and white chocolate topped with crushed peppermint candy, is priced at less than $1.75 per serving. This current pricing positions it as a more affordable option compared to similar specialty items, such as Williams-Sonoma's version, which retails for around $35.

The return of the peppermint bark at a more palatable price has been met with enthusiasm from shoppers. Accounts focused on Costco finds on platforms like Instagram and Reddit have shared the news, with users expressing excitement for the holiday staple.

Beyond the peppermint bark, Costco has also begun stocking other holiday-themed items. The selection includes Toblerone Biscoff truffles, Lindt Teddy Advent calendars, assorted Lindor truffles, Ferrero gift boxes, Kirkland Signature European cookies in festive tins, and both traditional and chocolate-filled panettone. Additionally, Kirkland Signature organic Madagascar vanilla beans are available for bakers.

While the holiday offerings are appearing, fall bakery items such as pumpkin bar cake, 4-pound pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, and caramel apple strudel bites remain on shelves.
