Costco Plans Aggressive Expansion with 33 New US Warehouses in 2027

Costco Wholesale is set to open 33 new warehouses in fiscal year 2027, a move that aligns with the company's strategic goal of adding approximately 30 net new locations each year. The expansive retail plans come as CEO Ron Vachris announced the company's latest earnings, detailing that the investment for these new locations is projected to be around $7.5 billion.

By the end of fiscal year 2026, Costco operated 939 warehouses. The company allocated $6.4 billion to capital projects during fiscal year 2026 alone. While the specific locations and opening dates for the 19 new warehouses announced for 2027 remain undisclosed, Costco typically does not comment on locations opening more than three months in advance.

This expansion follows a recent update where Costco's website listed 14 new locations slated to open between October and November. These upcoming stores include openings in Lee's Summit, Missouri; The Colony, Texas; Amherst, New York; Lawrence, Kansas; and Camarillo, California, for October. In November, nine additional warehouses are scheduled to open, with four in Canada and five in the U.S.: South Meridian, Idaho; Vallejo, California; Chandler, Arizona; Newport News, Virginia; and Franklin, Wisconsin.

Some of these new openings involve relocations or expansions of existing stores. For instance, the forthcoming Newport News store will replace a facility that has been in operation since 1988. Costco acquired a 32-acre property nearby to construct a larger, 163,000-square-foot retail warehouse and fuel station.

Costco also recently opened locations in July and August across nine states, offering bulk items such as a 25-pound bag of jasmine rice in markets including Utah, Florida, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Texas.
