Cosmetic Doctor Suspended for Practicing Uninsured for Nearly Two Years

Dr. Francesco Barbagallo, a cosmetic doctor in Hawthorn, has been suspended after practicing for nearly two years without mandatory insurance, leaving patients potentially exposed.

Dr. Barbagallo continued to treat patients at his clinic, Medico Estetica, for approximately 23 months without the required insurance coverage. His insurance lapsed due to non-renewal in September 2021. The suspension comes after a decision published last week, where Dr. Barbagallo was found to have engaged in three counts of professional misconduct, one count of unprofessional conduct, and one count of improperly obtaining registration. The Medical Board of Australia referred the case to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

During this period, Dr. Barbagallo performed non-invasive and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. The exact nature of the treatments and the number of patients affected have not been specified.
