Cornell University Bars Student After Alleged Gang Rape

Newly released bodycam footage captures the moment a Cornell University student, identified as one of the "Cornell 7" accused in a gang rape lawsuit, was informed he was banned from campus. The footage from the Cornell Police Department shows an officer informing the student that he is no longer permitted on any university grounds following an investigation into an alleged assault in October 2024.

The video was released alongside audio recordings of conversations between the alleged victim, identified only as Jane Doe, and Chi Phi fraternity brother Matthew Ingalls in the days following the incident. In one recorded phone call, Ingalls is heard telling Jane Doe, "You did tell me you were sober, by the way." Jane Doe, however, stated in the audio that Ingalls and six others allegedly sexually assaulted her while she was "10 shots deep."

Jane Doe told Ingalls that she had to seek emergency room treatment and therapy after the alleged assault in the fraternity house due to "so much damage on my body and my brain." Ingalls maintained his innocence during the call, claiming Jane Doe had convinced him she was not intoxicated and "hadn't been anywhere" that night, an assertion she disputed.

In the released audio, Jane Doe questioned Ingalls about how a threesome occurred in his fraternity house, stating she did not remember the details of the night. Ingalls recounted that she entered, they danced, and he asked her to join a threesome, to which she agreed. He stated they then invited another man from the dance floor, and they proceeded upstairs.

Jane Doe's civil lawsuit alleges that several other Chi Phi fraternity brothers joined them in the room periodically and participated in the assault. The lawsuit also claims that the fraternity brothers advertised "free pussy" in a Snapchat group chat, with one member allegedly posting a photo of Jane Doe to the group chat and saying, "Boys come whip it out."

Ingalls and another student were expelled from Cornell University following the investigation into the alleged assault. Two other students were suspended, two were found not to be involved, and one student had already graduated and thus could not be punished by the university. The other Chi Phi fraternity brothers named in Jane Doe's lawsuit are Jonathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris, and Scott Kretzschmar. None have been arrested or charged with a crime in connection with the lawsuit.
