Cornell Fraternity Member Accused in Gang Rape Allegations Flees to Thailand
Matthew Ingalls, one of seven expelled fraternity brothers, reportedly told friends he was going to Thailand to 'find himself' following the allegations.
Matthew Ingalls, a former Cornell University student accused in a gang rape incident, has reportedly left the country for Thailand. Ingalls, one of seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity expelled from the Ivy League school following the allegations, told friends he was going to the Southeast Asian nation to "find himself," according to sources.
The incident allegedly occurred in 2024. Footage obtained by ABC News, which appears to show the frat-house bedroom where the assault is alleged to have taken place, was later released. The room was depicted with trash scattered around.
Cornell's Chi Phi chapter was shut down in 2024 in the wake of the allegations and remains barred from campus. The Tompkins County district attorney's office declined to prosecute the case.
Ingalls was a member of the rugby team and joined the Chi Phi fraternity after enrolling at Cornell.
His father, Matthew B. Ingalls, 48, is an academic who has taught classes on Sharia Law and Islam at institutions including Yale University, the University of Puget Sound, and the American University in Cairo, Egypt. He specializes in Islamic law, Muslim intellectual history, and Sufism. He is pictured with his wife, Yasmine Khattab.
The alleged assault reportedly involved ketamine being snorted off the victim's body.
