Cornell Accuser Sent Short Text During Alleged Gang Rape, Messages Show

Newly released text messages indicate that an accuser in the "Cornell 7" case, identified as Jane Doe, sent a brief reply to her roommate during the time she alleges she was gang-raped. The exchange, shared by TMZ, is being cited by the defense as evidence that Doe was not too intoxicated to consent.

The text exchange occurred on October 20, 2024. Doe's roommate texted her at 3:05 a.m. asking, "You coming home tn [tonight]?" According to the messages, Doe replied with "idk" (I don't know).

This communication took place within an hour of Doe alleging that multiple individuals were using ketamine off her body and that she was too intoxicated to understand her surroundings. The alleged assault occurred in the Chi Phi fraternity house at Cornell University.

Attorneys for the accused fraternity brothers argue that these messages, which were reportedly part of Cornell's internal disciplinary proceedings, demonstrate that the accuser was capable of reading, processing, and responding to communication. This counteracts claims that she was incapacitated during the alleged incident.

Doe's roommate later posted a photo of their sorority dorm room on social media the following morning with the caption, "It was a good night when only one out [of] three of us made it back." According to the roommate, Doe returned home later and began to recall the events of the night in the subsequent days and weeks.
