Cornell Accused Students Deny Gang Rape Allegations
Three of seven students accused of gang rape at Cornell University have publicly denied the claims, as text messages from the accuser have surfaced.
Three students, identified as part of the group known as the 'Cornell 7,' have broken their silence to deny allegations of gang rape. The accusations have led to widespread outrage and scrutiny of both Cornell University and local authorities.
Details emerged regarding text messages sent by the accuser to a friend, which have also drawn attention. The university is facing intense pressure to address the situation, with the fraternity Chi Phi having been banned from campus since 2024.
Legal representatives for some of the accused students have invoked the 2006 Duke University lacrosse scandal, where individuals were falsely accused of rape. In that case, Crystal Mangum, who was central to the allegations, later admitted to fabricating the claims.
Cornell University has expressed support for the District Attorney's decision to re-examine the case. The accuser's claims have reportedly left actress Florence Pugh feeling "uneasy and sick and anxious," according to her social media posts. Pugh stated she was "enraged" by institutions that she believes shield accused men over women.
One of Pugh's posts, addressing the allegations, was flagged by Instagram for sensitive content and restricted.
