Cornel West and Sean Hannity Explore Common Ground Amid Political Divide

Progressive scholar Cornel West appeared on Fox News host Sean Hannity's podcast, "Hang Out with Sean Hannity," engaging in a wide-ranging discussion that spanned socialism, Iran, immigration, and former President Donald Trump. Despite their contrasting political viewpoints, the conversation revealed a surprising personal connection and mutual respect between the two.

West, who stated he does not live to meet others' expectations, explained his willingness to engage with Hannity stemmed from his Christian faith, which compels him to view all individuals as fellow human beings. "Each person is a brother and a sister, no matter what their politics are, what ideology, what color, their gender, their sexual orientation. They're human beings at that deepest level," West said, referring to Hannity as "Brother Sean."

Hannity acknowledged that he found himself liking West despite their disagreements. The interview saw the two men debating various issues while maintaining civility. For instance, during a discussion about the war with Iran, West characterized the U.S. killing of Iranian civilians as a war crime. Hannity countered by citing Iran's alleged support for terrorism and attacks that resulted in American casualties, also referencing the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as actions that prevented further American losses.

The podcast also touched upon topics such as education and poverty. West argued that public institutions should increase protections for poor and working-class Americans, a point Hannity contested.

The full conversation between Hannity and West is available on platforms including iHeartRadio, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
