Corey Pavin's Wife's Cancer Has Not Completely Resolved, Golfer Shares

Former U.S. Open champion Corey Pavin has shared a difficult update regarding his wife Lisa's ongoing battle with cancer. Pavin revealed that despite completing her final chemotherapy treatment in February, her cancer "never went away completely."

Lisa Pavin began a cell-based gene therapy on Tuesday, according to an Instagram post by her husband. "Over the last two months and after multiple visits to the Mayo Clinic, Lisa is getting her CAR-T infusion today," Corey Pavin wrote. "We are hoping and praying that this will kick her cancer’s ass!"

Pavin, who won the U.S. Open in 1995, expressed pride in his wife's resilience, stating, "The emotional and physical toll fighting cancer is immense, and I’m so proud of Lisa’s courage, attitude and perseverance!"

He also extended gratitude to the medical staff at the Mayo Clinic and to friends for their support. "And much gratitude to all of Lisa’s friends who have reached out to her for your prayers and support which has helped more than you will ever know!"

CAR T-cell therapy, or chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy, is an immunotherapy treatment where a patient's T cells are genetically modified to help their immune system identify and combat cancer cells. Pavin did not specify the type of cancer his wife is battling.

In February, Pavin had announced that Lisa had completed her sixth and final chemotherapy treatment, describing her as an "incredible, upbeat, strong, persevering, loving, determined, positive, resolute and simply awesome" patient throughout the process. At that time, he thanked the medical team at Texas Oncology and expressed appreciation for the widespread support.

The couple married in 2003 and have one daughter, Alexis, who is 18 years old. Pavin recently competed in the Sanford International in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
