Cops Called to Florida Youth Soccer Game Over Dominant 3-Year-Old
League officials contacted police due to a disturbance involving parents of a highly skilled young player.
Winter Park, Florida police responded to a youth soccer game on Saturday after a league official reported a disturbance involving the parents of a 3-year-old player. According to a police report, the official from the i9 Sports league called authorities seeking assistance in managing the situation, describing one parent as "really, really disruptive."
Audio obtained by the New York Post indicates the league official, Thomas Hayes, told a dispatcher that a parent was following him and verbally accosting him in front of other attendees. Hayes requested police presence to resolve the situation, stating, "I want to be done."
The underlying issue, as reported, was the exceptional talent of the 3-year-old player. Other parents reportedly expressed concerns about the child's playing time due to his dominance on the field. The police report suggests that league officials informed the family that their son would no longer be permitted to play in the league, citing their behavior during the disturbance, and offered a refund.
Winter Park police stated that the matter was outside their jurisdiction and characterized it as a civil issue. In a statement, they confirmed that the league requested the family leave and offered a refund. Police were asked by the league official to speak with the family to prevent further disturbance, and the family indicated they were leaving as the game had concluded.
i9 Sports has not yet provided clarification on the incident. Attempts to reach company executives were unsuccessful, with OutKick being directed to submit inquiries through a media link. Phone calls to the Winter Park office also went unanswered, and the league's voicemail box was reportedly full.
The family contends that their son was removed from the league due to his advanced skill level. Reports indicate that the child had scored 21 goals in two games played earlier in October. Images of a young boy playing soccer were provided, though they are not directly from the incident in question.
