A Pasadena bakery is facing severe operational challenges and significant financial losses after thieves stole copper wire from its rooftop air conditioning unit, exacerbating the impact of a regional heatwave. The theft, which occurred on the first day of intense heat, cost Sweet Red Peach Bakery $4,000 in stolen copper and an additional $15,000 in damages, according to Pasadena police.

The loss of air conditioning has led to internal temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit, causing bakery products to melt and freezing units to be at risk of failure. Co-owner Danny Griffin stated that the incident was unexpected, leaving the business to grapple with the immediate consequences.

This is not an isolated incident for businesses in the area. A nearby Trek Bicycle store has reportedly experienced three similar thefts in the past seven months, resulting in nearly $100,000 in losses.

Despite the difficulties, the bakery owners, Danny Griffin and Kenyatta Glover, are determined to keep the business operational. The community has shown support, with some regular customers continuing to patronize the establishment to aid in its recovery. Glover mentioned that the shop had recently recovered from the effects of the Eaton Fire, making the timing of this theft particularly challenging.
