Daniel Thomas, the founder of the Patriot Platform and organizer of recent anti-migrant protests, has been identified as a convicted kidnapper with a middle-class upbringing, according to reports. Thomas, who uses the online moniker 'Danny Tommo,' has been at the forefront of demonstrations involving balaclava-clad protesters in Dover and Portsmouth.

Thomas, 37, presents his movement as comprised of "working class men" such as bricklayers and carpenters. However, his own background includes attendance at a private school and a father who was a university-educated ski enthusiast. Thomas himself has a prior conviction for kidnapping, for which he served two years in prison in 2016. He was part of an incident where he and two accomplices broke into a man's home, armed with knives, and falsely accused him of theft.

Despite this violent past, Thomas describes his current path as a Christian activist and claims his movement aims to be non-violent, though recent protests have seen clashes with police and damage to vehicles. He served as a bodyguard for Tommy Robinson, a far-right figure, and is seen by some as a potential successor. Thomas insists that the balaclavas worn by protesters are a measure against being targeted by "the left."

Thomas also has a military background, having served as a tank driver, but was discharged on medical grounds before seeing active service. His roofing company, RMT Roofing Specialists Ltd, is described on its website as being "rooted in faith" and providing services that reflect "integrity and strong Christian values."

His family life appears distinct from his public persona. His father, Russell Thomas, died by suicide in France in 2022. His siblings have pursued careers in aviation, yoga instruction, and business consulting. His mother, Alison Thomas, has distanced herself from his activities, stating he does not live with her and she wants no association with his recent actions.

Thomas has publicly challenged political figures who have criticized his protests. He recently interrupted a press conference held by Reform UK's home affairs spokesman, Zia Yusuf, to defend his movement and criticize Nigel Farage's condemnation of the demonstrations. Thomas stated that his followers could become a "voting bloc" and hinted at shifting political allegiances if dissatisfied with current political responses.

The Patriot Platform was reportedly formed to defend Britain's borders. Following the recent protests, authorities and politicians are confronting the question of whether Thomas represents a new, organized form of anti-migrant street politics or is simply another rabble-rouser.
