Conte Denies Advanced Talks or Demands with Manchester United
Antonio Conte has addressed speculation linking him with Manchester United, stating that discussions are not advanced and refuting claims of making specific demands.
Antonio Conte has issued a statement denying that negotiations to manage Manchester United are in an advanced stage, while also refuting reports of him making specific conditions or demands to clubs. The former Chelsea and Napoli manager, who has been linked with numerous clubs since leaving Napoli in the summer, stated that any discussions are currently without a concrete basis.
Recent reports in Italy suggested that Conte had presented 'specific conditions' regarding the transfer market and the composition of his technical staff, aiming for full control akin to a manager rather than a head coach. However, Conte clarified that these claims are unfounded.
"My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage," Conte said. "Following a wonderful and successful spell in charge of Napoli, I will take the time I need to consider how and when to return to management. It will be a carefully considered decision, one I will make when I believe the conditions are right."
He further added, "I have read reports of financial demands and requests for full control that I have supposedly already made to the clubs mentioned, as well as reservations about what has been described as my 'strong personality'. These reports are unfounded, as there is currently no concrete basis for such assessments. Should a concrete opportunity arise, that will be the time to hold discussions with the club concerned and jointly consider the terms of a potential agreement, with due regard for both parties' needs and the qualities and approach that define my work as a manager."
Conte's managerial career is noted for its intensity and success, but also for his strong personality, which has led to high-profile departures from clubs like Chelsea and Napoli. Reports from former players, such as Ashley Young who worked with Conte at Inter Milan, highlight the demanding nature of his training sessions and lengthy team meetings.
Manchester United's directorial team is reportedly considering various candidates to potentially replace current manager Michael Carrick. Director of football Jason Wilcox is understood to favor managers with Premier League experience, with names like Eddie Howe, Fabian Hurzeler, and Unai Emery also on a shortlist alongside Conte. Meanwhile, director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is reportedly advocating for Julian Nagelsmann.
The club is reportedly facing internal challenges, with reports of friction and differing opinions on recruitment strategies. Amidst these circumstances, captain Bruno Fernandes has publicly questioned the team's tactics following a significant defeat, emphasizing the need for a shift in the club's approach to achieve success.
