This decision follows a ballot where 76% of consultants who participated voted in favor of strike action earlier this year. Discussions between the consultants' representatives and the government have occurred over the past month.
Consultants, who are the most senior doctors within the National Health Service (NHS), received a 3.5% pay increase this year. The strike action highlights a persistent disagreement over compensation and retirement benefits for these senior medical professionals.
