A conservative super PAC focused on artificial intelligence policy has made its initial campaign investments, supporting two Republican candidates in House races that the group considers crucial for maintaining GOP control of the chamber. Defending Our Values PAC announced its backing for Rhett Marques in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District and Scott Singer in Florida's 25th Congressional District.

The Republican party currently holds a narrow majority in the House of Representatives, making a limited number of competitive races pivotal in determining the party that will control Congress following the 2024 midterm elections. Defending Our Values views both the Alabama and Florida contests as key opportunities for Republicans to preserve their House majority.

The PAC's investment coincides with artificial intelligence emerging as a significant policy debate on Capitol Hill. Lawmakers are considering how to regulate the rapidly advancing technology while simultaneously fostering American innovation and maintaining the nation's technological lead over China. Defending Our Values advocates for a conservative-led approach to shaping these policies, rather than deferring to Silicon Valley executives.

While Defending Our Values previously announced a $15 million election initiative, the specific candidates receiving support had not been disclosed until now. Marques and Singer are the first to benefit from this effort, according to sources familiar with the PAC's plans. The organization selected these candidates based on its belief that they would be strong advocates for addressing concerns related to Big Tech, enhancing online protections for children and families, and advancing policies aimed at ensuring the United States' leadership in artificial intelligence innovation relative to China.

Both Marques and Singer are currently competing in crowded Republican primaries, with anticipated competitive general election matchups. Marques is participating in a multi-candidate Republican primary in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District and has received endorsements from former President Donald Trump and Senator Katie Britt. Alabama's special Republican primary is scheduled for August 11, following redistricting.

In Florida's 25th Congressional District, Singer is also facing multiple Republican contenders in his primary race. He has garnered endorsements from Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, among other Republican figures, ahead of the August 18 primary election.

The PAC's spending aims to help both Marques and Singer secure their nominations and increase their name recognition leading into the November general election. If successful, Marques would contend against incumbent Representative Shomari Figures, a Democrat. Singer, if he wins his primary, would likely face Representative Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat known for his strong criticism of former President Trump.
