Retired conservative federal Judge J. Michael Luttig has issued a stark warning about former President Donald Trump, describing him as increasingly "desperate" and feeling the "walls are closing in."
In an appearance on MSNBC's "Wallace," Luttig, appointed to the federal bench by President George H.W. Bush and now a vocal critic of Trump, compared the former president to a "trapped wild animal." He suggested this situation should be a cause for concern for both the United States and the international community.
Luttig pointed to growing opposition and challenges Trump faces, including economic concerns and ongoing international conflicts, stating, "We all knew that this day would come. We’ve known it for six years, and then we’ve known it for the past 19 or 20 months. Right now, today, the walls are closing in on Donald Trump, the president of the United States."
He elaborated that Trump "is feeling trapped" and will remain so "between now and the midterm elections and then the certification of the new Congress in January."
Luttig, who advised then-Vice President Mike Pence during Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, stated that Trump's current predicament stems from being "entrapped by America itself and all that America has always been." He asserted that the United States, once a "beacon of freedom and liberty to the world for 250 years," is no longer that entity due to Trump's actions, which he characterized as attacks on American ideals.
"But now America is slowly fighting back," Luttig said. "The walls are closing in on him, and he is desperate at this point. That should worry all of us. And it should worry the world."
