Conor Kennedy Weds Brazilian Pop Star Giulia Be in Rio de Janeiro
The three-day celebration included a blessing at Christ the Redeemer and a ceremony at a historic church, with family in attendance.
Conor Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., married Brazilian pop star Giulia Bourguignon Marinho, professionally known as Giulia Be, in a multi-day wedding celebration in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month.
The festivities, which began October 8, featured a blessing at the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, a ceremony at the Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, and a reception at a mansion in Jardim Botânico. The couple had previously held a private civil ceremony in Los Angeles in March.
Marinho expressed her desire to celebrate their union in her hometown, telling Vogue, "We wanted to celebrate not just the wedding, but also Rio de Janeiro, the city we love." She added, "Being there, overlooking Rio, with our family was one of those moments I’ll never forget."
The church where the ceremony was held, known as the Antiga Sé, is a historic building dating back to 1808. It once served as the royal chapel and cathedral for the Portuguese court upon its arrival in Brazil. The church is located in Rio's downtown historic center, near Praça XV de Novembro.
The celebration's events included a welcome party in Alto da Boa Vista, beach volleyball on Ipanema, and the blessing at Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain. The reception took place at Instituto Brando Barbosa in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood.
Conor Kennedy is the grandson of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy. His father, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., shared photos from the event on social media, including images of the wedding party near the Christ the Redeemer statue and his wife, Cheryl Hines, with samba dancers. Giulia Be commented on the photos, expressing her happiness that Kennedy's family enjoyed her hometown.
