A Connecticut father faces charges after his infant son died in a hot car while he worked on the family strawberry farm, according to the East Windsor Police Department.
Kevin Pell, 47, called 911 on August 15, reporting that he found his 1-year-old son unresponsive in the vehicle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and began CPR, subsequently transporting the child to Connecticut Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to an arrest warrant, the child was left in the car in direct sunlight with the windows closed, a condition described as "not habitable for the child." Pell initially told dispatchers the air conditioning was not on but later stated to police that he had left the child asleep with the AC running for about an hour.
Pell was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a child. He was released on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 16. Additional charges may be filed pending the results of the child's autopsy.
