Condé Nast Traveller Unveils World's Top Beaches
From Italy's Sperlonga to Hawaii's Hanauma Bay, the publication highlights global coastal gems.
Condé Nast Traveller has revealed its annual Readers' Choice Awards, spotlighting the world's most exceptional beaches across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The list features a diverse range of destinations, from the pink-tinged sands of Greece's Falassarna Beach to the secluded beauty of Thailand's Railay Beach, accessible only by boat.
In Europe, Italy's Sperlonga secured the top spot, noted for its charming old town and proximity to Rome. Malta's Blue Lagoon, known for its crystal-clear waters, followed, having served as a filming location for movies like "Troy." Turkey's Patara Beach, a lengthy natural shoreline adjacent to ancient ruins, claimed third place.
Portugal's Praia da Falésia, characterized by its dramatic red sandstone cliffs, was recognized for its scenic beauty and suitability for hikers. Rounding out the top five European beaches was Falassarna Beach in Crete, Greece, celebrated for its unique pink sand and stunning sunsets.
Within the UK and Ireland, Llanddwyn Beach on Anglesey, Wales, was named the best, offering views of Eryri National Park and proximity to the Twr Mawr Lighthouse. Ballyheigue in County Kerry, Ireland, was lauded for its soft sands and breathtaking sunsets, making it a favorite for walkers and surfers. Scotland's Camusdarach Beach, famous as a filming location for "Local Hero," also made the list, along with Cornwall's Perranporth Beach in England, known for its surfing conditions and beachside music bar.
Asia's offerings included Arugam Bay Beach in Sri Lanka, a hub for surfers with a relaxed, bohemian atmosphere. Thailand's Railay Beach impressed with its towering limestone cliffs and limited accessibility by boat. Malaysia's Coral Beach on Pangkor Island was highlighted for its sunset views, while the Philippines' Boracay Island was noted for its powdery white sands and vibrant nightlife. Indonesia's Nusa Dua Beach in Bali completed the top five Asian destinations, praised for its well-maintained luxury resort setting.
The Americas list featured Hawaii's Hanauma Bay on Oahu, a protected marine reserve renowned for its calm waters and snorkeling opportunities. Mexico's Tulum Beach, with its bohemian vibe and chic atmosphere, was also recognized. In Florida, Clearwater Beach was noted for its white sands and access to water activities, while Gulf Shores Public Beach in Alabama was celebrated for its sparkling sands and turtle nesting sites. Mexico's Playa Balandra in Baja California Sur was described as an untouched gem, featuring unique rock formations and a tranquil environment.
