Condé Nast Traveller Ranks Top Ski Resorts Globally

Condé Nast Traveller's Readers' Choice Awards has identified the world's premier ski destinations, highlighting resorts known for challenging slopes, luxurious amenities, and stunning scenery. The rankings span European Alps and North American mountains, catering to diverse preferences from adrenaline-seeking skiers to those prioritizing family-friendly facilities and vibrant après-ski scenes.

Zermatt, Switzerland, secured the top spot in Europe and globally, lauded for its challenging runs beneath the iconic Matterhorn and its status as the highest ski resort in the Alps. The resort offers ski points up to 3,899 meters, with views spanning Switzerland, Italy, and France.

In the United States, Deer Valley in Utah ranked second overall and first in North America. Known for its luxury, Deer Valley enforces a ski-only policy, contributing to less congested slopes. The resort also offers high-end hospitality, including gourmet dining and upscale accommodations.

Sun Valley, Idaho, claimed the bronze medal and third place in North America. As America's first destination ski resort, established in 1936, it boasts 2,000 acres of skiable terrain suitable for all skill levels. The resort is nicknamed 'the Alps of America' and features extensive snow-making capabilities.

Vail, Colorado, US, rounded out the top five globally and ranked third in North America. Despite its popularity, drawing millions of visitors annually, Vail faced challenges last winter due to historically low snowfall, impacting its economic boost from tourism.

Other notable U.S. resorts in the top rankings include Solitude, Utah, which offers 82 runs across 1,200 acres and averages 500 inches of snow annually, and Telluride, Colorado, a former mining town known for its historic charm and diverse ski terrain.

Resorts in Canada also featured prominently, with Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia recognized for its extensive runs and lively village. Silver Star Mountain and Mount Washington, both in British Columbia, were also highlighted for their terrain and family-friendly atmosphere.

European resorts like Verbier, Switzerland, and Méribel, France, were celebrated for their luxury offerings and appeal to royalty and celebrities. Méribel is part of Les Trois Vallees, Europe's largest interconnected ski area.

Italy's Val Gardena, part of the Dolomiti Superski network, was noted for its variety of slopes suitable for all levels. Austria's Obergurgl was praised for its efficient lift system and reliable snow conditions extending until April.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming, US, known for its challenging terrain and the steepest vertical drop in the U.S., concluded the top 15. The resort offers advanced and expert-level slopes, alongside opportunities for wildlife tours and sleigh rides.
