Volunteers from two community groups have saved approximately 34 tonnes of uneaten food and other items from the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The initiative, involving around 50 helpers from Roade and Towcester's Community Larders, saw volunteers spend more than 1,000 hours collecting discarded food and goods.
Starting on Friday, volunteers transported items such as eggs, milk, fruit, and vegetables to pop-up shops. Notably, a carpet was also among the salvaged items. Katie Steele, representing the Towcester group, reported "record attendances" at the pop-up shops, estimating that their efforts had assisted about 3,000 individuals. The collections concluded on Friday, with Steele attributing the success to "absolutely amazing teamwork."
