Commanders Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin Out for Season with Torn Patellar Tendon

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his patellar tendon, head coach Dan Quinn announced Tuesday. The injury occurred during the first quarter of the Commanders' 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.

McLaurin collapsed near the sideline after his left knee buckled while planting his foot to run a route. He remained on the ground before being taken off the field on a cart, with his left leg placed in an air cast. An MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, necessitating season-ending surgery.

"I'm gutted for him," Quinn stated. "Man, he brings a lot on and off the field. It's a big hit, and we'll lean on a number of guys."

McLaurin, a two-time Pro Bowler, finishes the season as the Commanders' leading receiver with 230 yards and one touchdown on 15 receptions. He had one catch for 27 yards in the game before sustaining the injury.

Selected by the Commanders in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, McLaurin has spent his entire eight-year career with the team. He had enjoyed a productive stretch from 2020 to 2024, exceeding 1,000 receiving yards in each of those seasons, including a career-high 13 touchdowns in 2024.

The injury adds to the Commanders' challenges as they currently sit in last place in the NFC East with a 1-4-1 record. The division remains competitive, with no team having secured multiple wins in recent weeks. The Philadelphia Eagles are also dealing with significant quarterback issues, having lost Jalen Hurts for the season due to blood clots. The Dallas Cowboys have lost two consecutive games, while the New York Giants also recently fell short in their matchup.

The Commanders are headed into a bye week in Week 7 and will host the Eagles in Week 8.
