The Washington Commanders have agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs, reportedly on a one-year contract. The move signals a decision by Washington to address its need for offensive firepower by acquiring Diggs over fellow receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Diggs, who has played for three different teams in the last three seasons, is set to join a Commanders receiving corps that includes Terry McLaurin, Treylon Burks, Luke McCaffrey, and Dyami Brown, as rookie Antonio Williams develops. For Diggs, the move to Washington, his home region, places him with quarterback Jayden Daniels, with whom he shared college chemistry at Arizona State.

The decision contrasts with the situation surrounding Aiyuk. NFL personnel have privately expressed concerns about Aiyuk's recent conduct, which has been described as off-putting and disconcerting. These concerns have reportedly impacted how teams view him as a potential locker room addition.

Aiyuk's recent behavior has included controversial social media posts. He was observed filming himself driving at high speeds, posted a video of himself throwing cash shortly after his team, the San Francisco 49ers, had extended his contract, and mocked coach Kyle Shanahan's recent accident that resulted in injuries and impacted his duties. These actions have drawn public backlash and are seen by some as detrimental to his professional standing.

Aiyuk had publicly expressed a desire to be traded to the Commanders, partly due to his previous connection with Daniels. While Washington had shown some interest in Aiyuk earlier in the offseason, that interest reportedly waned. The Commanders' signing of Diggs leaves Aiyuk's future with the 49ers and his prospects for the upcoming season uncertain.
