Commanders' Radio Booth Expresses Frustration Over Overtime Gaffe

The radio broadcast booth for the Washington Commanders expressed dismay and confusion following the team's 27-27 overtime tie against the New York Giants in Week 5. Play-by-play announcer Bram Weinstein and analyst London Fletcher were critical of the team's decision to run down the clock in overtime, seemingly believing they had timeouts remaining when they did not.

"You gotta be kidding me," Fletcher stated as the game concluded, later adding, "That's not how you execute…that's brutal. That's on us."

Fletcher and Weinstein explained that the Commanders should have communicated with quarterback Jayden Daniels to either throw the ball away or attempt a field goal. They suggested that kicker Drew Stevens could have been utilized for a field goal attempt from the Giants' 24-yard line much earlier in the possession.

The booth attributed the critical error to a "lack of communication, lack of understanding of the situation." This miscalculation led to the Commanders falling to a 1-3-1 record on the season, while the Giants improved to 3-1-1.

Following the game, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn accepted responsibility for the outcome. "The sequencing of that does not fall on [Daniels]," Quinn said. "It’s an outside throw or a clock – an out of bounds throw, or a clock. That has to come from me. I have to put him in that spot. I can do that earlier and we can finish the kick earlier. We don’t need to gain more yards."
