Commanders' Jayden Daniels Nearing Return From Dislocated Elbow
The Washington Commanders quarterback is expected to miss three weeks or fewer after suffering a dislocated elbow that required no surgery.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is on an encouraging recovery timeline after suffering a dislocated left elbow last week against the Dallas Cowboys. According to NFL Network, Daniels could return to play in three weeks or potentially sooner. The Commanders opted not to place Daniels on injured reserve, a move that would have required him to miss at least four games.
Daniels sustained the injury when he braced a fall with his left arm, an injury that also sidelined him last season. The 25-year-old quarterback underwent no surgery for the ailment. He wore a brace on his elbow last season, when he was limited to seven games, and will do so again upon his return this year.
Despite the injury, Daniels played in all 17 games of his rookie season in 2024, during which the Commanders finished 12-5 and he earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. However, he has struggled to regain that form, partly due to health issues.
Marcus Mariota is slated to start at quarterback for the Commanders in their upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. Mariota, also a former second-overall draft pick, previously filled in for Daniels in eight games last season.
The Commanders currently hold an 0-2 record, with losses to divisional rivals, the Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.
