Comedian James Acaster Claims "Celebrity Traitors" Editing Omitted Key Scene

Comedian James Acaster, a participant in the current season of "Celebrity Traitors," has asserted that key editing choices by show producers significantly altered the perceived reasons behind fellow contestant Julie Hesmondhalgh's banishment. Acaster claims a pivotal scene, which he says revealed evidence of lying and explained Hesmondhalgh's removal, was omitted from the broadcast.

During the episode that aired last Thursday, Hesmondhalgh, an actress known for her role on "Coronation Street," was voted out by her peers. This occurred despite them having initially identified her as the most trustworthy contestant in the first episode, a designation that earned her a shield. Following this, James Blunt, another contestant, proposed a theory that by selecting the most trustworthy player, the group had inadvertently chosen their first traitor.

However, Acaster contends that Blunt's motivation for targeting Hesmondhalgh was not solely based on the shield theory. According to Acaster, Blunt's actual grievance stemmed from a conversation between himself and Hesmondhalgh. Acaster explained that after the initial "shoulder tap" selection of traitors, he advised Hesmondhalgh to observe contestants who were not openly sharing their theories, as a traitor might avoid incriminating another.

Acaster recounted in an interview with Times2 that Hesmondhalgh subsequently approached Blunt and questioned his reticence to share his theories. Blunt, having just shared his thoughts with her at the table, interpreted this as an accusation and evidence of lying. Acaster maintains that Blunt presented this as the reason for Hesmondhalgh's banishment, a detail he says was not included in the final edit.

Instead, the show's producers focused on the shield theory and Hesmondhalgh's refusal to share Bella Ramsey's theories after Ramsey was murdered. This editing choice may place Blunt in a precarious position, given his strong advocacy for Hesmondhalgh's removal.

In related revelations, fellow traitor Maya, a host from "Love Island," admitted that recruiting James and Hannah Fry as traitors was a "stupid decision." She explained that she was unaware that both James and Hannah had expressed reservations about becoming traitors. Maya, who has avoided suspicion from the "Faithfuls" thus far, described the intense pressure of being a traitor, including minimal sleep and a lack of time for personal grooming due to late nights in the turret. She also reflected on moments where she was unaware of discussions about her potential traitor status happening behind her back.
