Comedian Carrot Top Recovering After Hospitalization, Representative Says

Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, is awake and breathing on his own following a hospitalization for what his representative described as a suicide attempt. The 61-year-old comedian is "continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him," a representative told TMZ.

His representative added that Thompson has been reading messages from fans and hearing stories about how his comedy has helped them through difficult times. "Hearing those stories and feeling that support has meant a great deal to him during his recovery," the rep stated. "Scott and his family remain deeply grateful for the extraordinary kindness and continue to ask that his privacy be respected."

Thompson was hospitalized on Friday, the same day he was scheduled to perform in Las Vegas. His performance that evening was canceled, and his Saturday show was also called off. Police were seen arriving at his Las Vegas residence on Saturday following the incident.

The comedian's hospitalization occurred shortly before he was allegedly asked to pay $500,000 by singer Brian Evans. According to a filing made by Thompson's lawyer, Evans threatened to leak a sexually explicit recording involving Thompson if the payment was not made. Thompson's legal team called the demand a "malicious threat" intended to extort money.

Evans, representing himself, denied making any threats. He stated to the Daily Mail, "I never threatened - ever - to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement." He also claimed the situation is "not the black and white story portrayed."

A representative for Thompson, Jami Schlicher, previously told the Daily Mail that a federal court had declared Evans a "vexatious litigant" and described his filings as "serial" and "spurious." Schlicher added that the court had stated one of Evans's cases "appears this entire case is designed to harass Defendants."

Fellow celebrities and fans have expressed support for Thompson. Actor Brad Garrett shared a tribute on social media, writing, "Oh my beautiful, talented friend @carrottoplive. We're ALL thanking our lucky stars that you're ok."

Thompson, known for his prop-heavy comedy routines, rose to prominence in the 1990s. He has previously spoken about maintaining a clean lifestyle, stating in a 2022 interview that he was "completely sober" and did not smoke marijuana, though he admitted to having a "little Crown on the rocks right before a show" and a "glass of red wine" afterward.
