Comedian Carrot Top Improving After Hospitalization, Accused Extortionist Denies Threats

Comedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, is awake and breathing on his own following a reported suicide attempt, according to a representative speaking to TMZ. The 61-year-old entertainer is reportedly joking with medical staff and reading messages from fans while hospitalized and under close medical care.

This development comes amid accusations that singer Brian Evans attempted to extort Thompson for $500,000. Thompson's lawyer claimed that Evans threatened to leak sexually explicit material unless the payment was made. However, Evans has denied these allegations, stating he never threatened to post any video in exchange for a settlement and that the material in question was deleted long ago.

According to a filing obtained by the Daily Mail, Thompson's lawyer asserted that Evans threatened to place sexually explicit content involving Thompson onto a USB drive and send it to a court's legal docket if the comedian did not pay. In response, Evans stated in an email to Thompson's lawyer that the content was "not a threat" and that he does not control the public docket or the press.

Thompson's legal team described the case as a "malicious threat" intended to disgrace the star and extort money. A representative for Thompson, Jami Schlicher, further noted that a federal court had previously declared Evans a "vexatious litigant" and characterized his filings as "serial" and "spurious," adding that the court had stated one of his cases appeared designed to harass defendants.

Evans, representing himself, told the Daily Mail that the situation is "not the black and white story portrayed" and that he never threatened to post any video for a settlement. He also expressed regret that Carrot Top "apparently did something to hurt himself" and stated he is glad Thompson survived.

Thompson was hospitalized on Friday, just hours before a scheduled performance at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Police were later seen at his Las Vegas residence. His performance for that evening, and subsequently for Saturday, were canceled. Thompson's last social media post, shared on Thursday, promoted his scheduled Friday show.

Fans and fellow celebrities, including actor Brad Garrett, have shared messages of support for Thompson on social media, expressing gratitude for his well-being and offering assistance. Garrett posted on Instagram, calling Thompson a "beautiful, talented friend" and emphasizing how appreciated and loved he is.

Thompson, known for his prop-heavy comedy routines, rose to fame in the 1990s. In a 2022 interview, he described himself as living a clean lifestyle, stating he was sober and did not smoke marijuana, though he admitted to having a small amount of alcohol before shows and a glass of red wine afterward. The comedian had previously sparked concern in November 2025 when he was seen looking disheveled at a Las Vegas grocery store.
