Comedian and podcast host Adam Carolla has criticized President Joe Biden for mocking former President Donald Trump's renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, arguing that the issue pales in comparison to the Biden administration's immigration policies.
During a recent appearance at a Democratic Party gala, Biden, 83, remarked on Trump's decision to hire a firm that had previously worked on his golf course to address issues with the Reflecting Pool. "Even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool?" Biden quipped, referring to the more than $14 million renovation project that has faced criticism for algae blooms.
Carolla, 62, on his podcast, dismissed Biden's comment as symbolic and out of touch. "Everything for Democrats is symbolic. It’s all symbolic," Carolla stated. "The f**king Reflecting Pool, the- whatever he's doing, does not have any actual impact on anybody, ever."
Carolla then directed his criticism at Biden's handling of immigration. "You old man, you let in 15 million people into this f**king country, and we have no idea who they are. And some are terrorists, others are rapists and killers," he said. "That's impactful." He contrasted this with the Reflecting Pool, which he argued makes "no difference to anybody."
He accused Biden and other Democrats of being "all talk" and more interested in symbolic gestures than substantive action, suggesting they "don't actually love the work."
The renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, a project undertaken by the Trump administration with the stated goal of achieving an "American flag blue" hue, has drawn scrutiny. Reports indicate the project failed to adequately address algae growth, leading to the pool turning green.
In contrast to Carolla's assertion about the number of immigrants, the Center for Migration Studies of New York estimated that approximately 10.9 million undocumented immigrants resided in the U.S. in 2024 before Trump took office, with over 40 percent being individuals who overstayed their visas. Border crossings, however, did reach historic highs during the Biden administration, peaking at around 200,000 encounters per month. Recent figures from U.S. Customs and Border Protection show a drop to approximately 26,000 nationwide illegal border encounters in a single month, an over 80 percent decrease from the late Biden era.
